Temptation...

Here's a post I did a long time ago on Wishing Hearts, a devotional blog that you should definitely check out and is run by my dear friend Hannah. Enjoy!

Why do we sin? Most people like to blame Adam and Eve, because they sinned first but actually, we all have to make our own choice when the devil tempts us. Adam and Eve made the wrong choice, but we still have a chance to make the right choice. Temptation means to try to get somebody to do something that isn’t right. So the devil tempted Eve into eating from the tree which obviously didn't turn out too well. So, if Adam and Eve didn’t sin then would somebody sin sooner or later? YES! Somebody more than likely would’ve sinned because the devil will always try to tempt us into doing something bad. Here’s a scripture that talks about that.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”  1 Peter 5:8

How can we get the devil to leave us alone? We speak in the name of Jesus for him to go away. He’ll go away, but only for a little while, because like I said before, the devil will always try to tempt you again. Here’s another scripture that talks some about it.

“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13

I hope this devotional was helpful and hopefully I'll be able to post more in the future!

Music Mondays

Hello! Today is Music Monday (as you all should know). So we gotta have a song for today right??? Well, today's song is the amazing Royal Taylor song: Wannabe. Remember guys-these lyrics were taken off of a website you can see the copyright on the bottom. Please respect these lyrics as they are not yours but someone else's and should be used very carefully. Thank you!! :D

Lyrics:

I was just walking home
iPod and my headphones on
Thinking ‘bout who I wanna be
TV, magazines and the billboards
All say I'd be cool if I had more
But that's a lie I must ignore

This world just keeps on trying
But it ain’t satisfying
This hunger in my soul
‘Cause they don’t even know
That my identity
Is more than what they see
It’s in the One who came to set me free
So I can be who I wannabe

Gotta friend lives down the road
Livin' life like a TV show
But his big ol' house is not a home (nah nah nah nah)
Gotta Benz, got friends but he's not sure
Would they be there if he was poor
That’s not the life I'm looking for

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matthew 6:19-20

This verse goes perfectly with this song. These singers are talking about how so many people store up they're riches on the Earth and they don't have anything stored up in heaven. Meaning, that we may be "popular" and "rich" down here on Earth but none of that stuff matters up in heaven. What matters is that we have been obedient to Lord here on Earth.  Now, that doesn't mean we can't have a nice house and a nice car and stuff like that, it means that we should not turn away from God when we have these good things. We should always have a good relationship with Him and we should obey Him. And if we obey Him we will be rewarded in heaven AND on Earth. How cool is that? I'm soooo in! :0) So just think about it....is your relationship with God good? Are your friends actually real friends or just a scam? Just a little something to think about! :)

How?

How in the world did I miss my own blog birthday? Ugh. Turns out, it was March 3, 2012. Anyways, I was going to have a blogger bash and stuff but as you can see, I completely forgot. Ha...ha. Yep, that's me, the forgetter. I'm still probably going to have a blogger bash thingamabob so keep checkin in! Anyways, Easter is tomorrow and I'm sooo excited to spend time with my family, eat yummy food, take pictures and all that fun stuff! But I'm also excited about (say it with me now) the resurrection of Jesus! To get you into the mood of the Resurrection, I found after quite a few minutes of searching, a story I wrote last year in my writing class. It's a tad bit embarrassing to read since I can write much better than that but it was the only story I had so sit back and enjoy my biblical fiction!

                                                                  Mary’s Devotion
“Why did this have to happen?” Mary Magdalene worriedly asked the other women who were walking with her to the tomb of Jesus. “What do you mean, Mary?” a young girl named Ruth asked Mary. “I mean about Jesus dying. He was the first person who actually paid attention to me. He was my closest friend! Why did he have to die?” Mary grieved. “He had to die, it was His command from God.” Ruth replied. As the other women kept on talking, Mary Magdalene’s mind was thousands of miles away in a completely different time. She was thinking about Jesus’ death.
She was in the front of the line watching him get whipped, 39 times. Most people laughed at him and a few people cried for Jesus. Mary was one of those people who cried. The next thing Jesus did was carrying the cross from where he was beaten to where his cross was to be put up. The last and worst thing that they did to Jesus Mary Magdalene could hardly stand-they nailed his hands and feet to the large cross. “Mary!” Shouted a voice. “Who, what, where!” Mary yelled frantically,  “We’re here,” Ruth, explained. “Oh, um, I knew that,” Mary anxiously laughed.
As the young women got closer to the tomb, they realized that the tombstone had been secretly rolled away for since it was still dark it was hard for them to tell from a distance that the tombstone was gone. “I must tell Simon Peter and John.” Mary Magdalene said as the other women dropped to their knees and wept.
Mary ran as fast as she could to Simon Peter’s home. She knew that the two beloved disciples would know what to do. When she reached Simon Peter’s humble home she knocked on the door frantically.
Simon Peter heard the door but felt too sleepy to get up. But as the knocking continued he knew he wouldn’t be able to get back to his much needed sleep so he got up and answered the door. Surprised to see Mary Magdalene that early in the morning he stepped back a little. “Mary, what a pleasant sur,” “Simon, some of the village women and I went to Jesus’ tomb this morning and, oh Simon, the tombstone has been rolled away and Jesus’ body was taken away!” Mary interrupted. “I will go get John immediately.” Simon Peter replied, alarmed by this sad news.
Still in his nightclothes Simon Peter ran over to John’s home and knocked loudly on the door just as Mary had done. He was greeted by big yawn. “John, we must go over to Jesus’ tomb immediately. Jesus’ body is gone!” Simon Peter told John frantically. “OK, as soon as I change tunics.” John assured Simon sleepily. “I suppose you didn’t hear me. Jesus’ body is gone, we must go investigate now! There’s no time to change!” Simon yelled.
Running to the tombstone John raced ahead of Simon who was already very tired from his run to John’s home. Once John reached the tomb he stooped and looked in but waited for Simon Peter to reach the massive tombstone to go in. Simon Peter reached the tomb shortly after John got there and panting Simon went in almost knocking his head on the opening in the process. John silently followed him so that he would know Jesus’ body was really gone. Seeing that Jesus’ body really wasn’t in there and that Mary Magdalene was right, the two young men walked home in silence.
Mary, who had been standing there weeping with the two men, looked inside and saw instead of linens, two angels one sitting at the head and one sitting at the feet of where Jesus’ body was. “Woman, why are you weeping?” they asked her. “They have taken my sweet Lord and I don’t know where they have put him!” she replied solemnly. As Mary said this she quickly walked backwards getting a last look at the angels. Suddenly she ran into someone so she turned around frantically and said, “I’m so very sorry! Sir, are you the gardener? Do you know where Jesus’ body is? If you’ve taken it please tell me where you have put His innocent body!” The man looked at her and said, “Mary.” “My teacher!” Mary gasped as she fell to her knees. Because of Mary’s devotion to her Master she was able to learn what true friendship means.

My story came from Matthew 28:1-9. ;)
